A Medical Lab Technician performs tests and laboratory procedures used in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. They may examine and analyze body fluids, and cells. They look for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms; analyze the chemical content of fluids; match blood for transfusions; and test for drug levels in the blood that show how a patient is responding to treatment. The test results will enable Physicians to detect, diagnose, and treat disease. The Medical Lab Technician may use such lab equipment as microscopes, cell counters, and automated and computerized equipment capable of performing a number of tests simultaneously.

The Medical Laboratory Technology program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, 5600 North River Road, Suite 720, Rosemont, IL 60018-5119. This achievement means that graduates of the MLT program at this school are now eligible to take the MLT (ASCP) certification examination upon successful completion of all program requirements.
